SOULARIUM – The Journey So Far

Dear Friends

Every project has a period of relevance. Our desire and determination have always been to stay relevant and to focus on work that will hopefully impact our zeitgeist in a compelling manner while embracing innovation, change, awareness, and well-being.

About 8 years ago, I personally became strongly involved in researching the latent properties of light and lighting beyond light levels and uniformity ratios. These latent properties of light utilize frequencies and wavelengths to create healing within the human body and mind. In 2015, I connected with an organization called the International Light Association (WEBSITE) which is an organization of acclaimed professionals that utilize light in all its nuances to heal people of different ailments! Wow! Some of the smartest people that you could find in one place from- physicians, scientists, therapists- and some of the nicest people on this planet. I was blown away, and they let me hang out with them, for which I am thankful. I learned about many “other” aspects of light that I was mostly unaware of, and that is after working almost 25 years as an architectural lighting designer with projects completed in over 23 countries. Steadily, the question that has kept me inspired for the past few years is “how do we mainstream this knowledge base and adapt it to an architectural setting for the good of the community?”

So, with the support of AWA team-members, we started the Soularium project (www.soularium.net). In 2017, we started developing a modular design for a space that can be replicated in any part of the world and will essentially provide a 20 to 30-minute experience with lights, sound, projection, frequencies, and colors, that together will provide you the respite to re-set and re-charge. The intent was to develop a communal space for mental health, with no ticket charges, where people could mingle on a continuing basis. People would be attracted to this oasis of soul-enriching energy- because it will help them provenly feel better without consuming intoxicants with their known side-effects.

This project harnesses the wisdom and knowledge of scientists, physicians, psychologists, musicians, chroma-therapists, and projection artist to create a 20-minute experience, with the serious intent of helping the community with their emotional stress (which can be induced by many reasons), reducing it and re-channeling it by using the science of healing that has been handed to us through the prisms of many different cultures.

Soularium – A Quick Look

SOULARIUM – The Proof Is In The Pudding

Since we started the self-funded work on Soularium, we have completed two temporary installations- One in Croatia in September 2019, and the other at Gallery AWA in NYC in December 2019. We had two more planned for the fall this year, but that will definitely be delayed due to the current circumstances. These installations were titled “You Are The Miracle.” Please enjoy the video with the highlights and testimonials. Hopefully, you will agree that there is enough evidence here to arrive at an empirical conclusion – this installation helps people. The proof is in the pudding!

Because of the exceptional times that we are all experiencing, we have decided to make the “You are the Miracle” AV file available online till the end of May. This AV file is best experienced on your TV or Laptop in a space with low ambient light and a good sound system. It is 18 minutes long, and in order for the healing effects to sink in, please give yourself a few minutes of quiet time before and after. You can use this any time of the day- and please remind yourself that “You are the Miracle.”

The password-protected full-length video (18 min) can be found on Vimeo HERE. Please email me at newyork@awalightingdesigners.com and we will send you the password.

Why Soularium?

SOULARIUM – Join The Team

We at AWA feel that the need of our zeitgeist is to serve people with our unique skillsets in lighting, health, and architecture. Our goal is to take Soularium worldwide. We currently have one experience that is fully developed and operational, called “You are the Miracle.” We have three more in the pipeline. The Soularium is meant to be an open-source space in the long-term- initially, it will show our healing programs, while creating a database of experiences contextualized for the local population through local artists and technicians.

The Soularium is a tremendous opportunity to serve our communities. Who should be interested in joining our project?

  1. City and Town Officials: This system will work anywhere in the world, and if you wish to install a project that helps and heals your citizens on their emotional, mental, and physical level, please contact us.
  2. Corporations that wish to give back to local communities: If you are a bank or another big corporation that wishes to give back, this project will provide a lasting legacy. We have worked the positioning and branding into the design, and that will help your community and customer be aware that you were behind this amazing project, and that you cared to give back to them.
  3. Architects and Urban Designers: If you are working on new developments and wish to introduce spaces of calm and respite that can provide a place of urban refuge, please contact us and we can work with you to create a place in your project that will remain relevant for decades to come.
  4. AV Designers, Cinematographers, Sound Professionals, Projection Artists, Story-tellers, Psychologists, Color Therapists, Dream Analyzers:  Please contact us. We have big goals which are not just contained to what we have in the pipeline currently. There may be opportunities to chart out new creative directions and strategies that we have not considered yet- and we would be happy to explore their feasibility with you.

So, how does it work? The Soularium Space comes in 3 sizes- Small is 24’ dia, the medium is 36’ dia and the large is 48’ dia. The costs and BOQ for the Soularium have been developed. It is a modular design and can be implemented anywhere in the world. The benefactor that chooses to support us will need to sponsor the installation and operation of the Soularium for a period of 3 months minimum. They will be permitted to use their branding collateral in certain locations, and they will be fulfilling a major social responsibility of providing emotional and mental support to their audience.

Let us turn this into a movement to help people in our communities. If you think you would like to join this movement, please write to us at newyork@awalightingdesigners.com, and let’s talk.

Our sincerest gratitude to all who have been involved.

I look forward to hearing from many of you.
