Finishes for Cleanable Fixtures
Paint finishes can be blended with an anti-microbial paint additive with the presence of silver ions. Anti-microbial paint inhibits the ability of microorganisms to grow on the surface of a material, which is a useful application for healthcare light fixtures. 1-2 mil of paint with this additive can be applied to interior light fixtures. Dirt deposition on the room surface decreases its reflectance value, therefore, light level changes to lower value from its initial value. Therefore, as more dirt is collected by fixtures, less light is emitted than what is capable of being emitted. Basic lighting fixture finishes consist of metals, wood, and painted or enameled surfaces.
Problem: Often, fixtures are not specified or installed with appropriate finishes, thereby reducing the efficiency of light fixtures.
- Specify finishes with antimicrobial properties
- Specify finishes that repel fluids and dirt accumulation
