Lighting for the Bayonne Bridge NY–NJ was divided into two separate but complementary schemes: a “necklace” lighting effect dotting the arch and roadway, and a system for lighting the structural members of the bridge. The necklace pattern consists of a series of sparkling points or “gems,” which can be programmed to emit color-changing light on holidays and special events. Structural lighting focuses on the illumination of the interior of the bridge structure, an inside-out strategy for lighting that plays up the bridge’s dimensionality, sculpting the structural members with light.
