G9 Precinct in Dubai is a 215-acre site located at the junction of the Central Business District to the west and Phase 3 to the east. A canal permeates the small-scale residential environment (Phase 3) with water from the Gulf. Characterized by the orthogonal grid of the streets, the massing of the west side of the G9 Precinct is formal in style and character. The east side of the precinct is informal and creates irregular open spaces that expand and contract as these open spaces move through the massing of the buildings. Water, a powerful element in this desert context, feeds, erodes, and transforms the landscape. An informal freshwater stream meanders through this formal urban park, running down the streets to return to the sea.
